Runs entirely in the browser; nothing entered into the tool is uploaded.

> An EXIF Metadata Stripper removes the EXIF block (GPS coordinates, camera model, capture time, edit history) from JPEG photos before you upload them anywhere, performing the operation in-browser so the original file with its metadata never leaves your device.

Drop a JPEG and the tool shows you the EXIF that's currently embedded — including any GPS coordinates that pin the photo to a specific street address. Hit Strip and the tool walks the JPEG segment markers, removes APP1/APP2/APP13 metadata segments, and gives you a clean download with the same image bytes but no metadata. Supports batch stripping for whole folders.

## Features

- Drag-and-drop EXIF stripping for JPEG, PNG, and WebP
- Shows the metadata that is currently embedded (including GPS coords) before stripping
- Surgical segment removal — no re-encode, no quality loss
- Batch processing for a whole folder of photos
- Original file with metadata never leaves your device

## Use cases

- Removing GPS coordinates from a holiday photo before posting it publicly
- Stripping camera serial numbers from images you share with clients
- Cleaning the metadata off screenshots that capture editor history
- Bulk-stripping a folder of photos before uploading them to a CMS

## How to use it

1. **Drop a photo** — Drag and drop one file or a folder. JPEG is the primary target.
2. **Inspect the metadata** — The tool shows what EXIF is currently embedded (camera, GPS, capture time) so you know what is about to be removed.
3. **Strip and download** — Click Strip and download the clean copy — same image bytes, no metadata.

## When to use it, and when to use something else

- **vs `exiftool -all=` in the terminal** — use EXIF Metadata Stripper when you want a paste-and-go UI in the browser, especially on a phone. Use `exiftool -all=` in the terminal when you are scripting.
- **vs Social network upload** — use EXIF Metadata Stripper when you want guarantees the metadata is gone before you upload. Use Social network upload when the network you use strips reliably (X does, many do not).

## Frequently asked questions

### What is EXIF and why should I care?

EXIF is metadata embedded in JPEG files by your camera or phone. It often includes GPS coordinates where the photo was taken, the camera/phone model, and the exact capture time. Social networks sometimes strip it; many file shares do not. Strip it before posting if you'd rather not leak your location.

### Does this re-encode the image?

No — that's the key point. We surgically remove the metadata segments without touching the image data, so there's zero quality loss and the file size only shrinks by however much metadata was attached.

### What formats are supported?

JPEG is the primary target (where EXIF most commonly carries GPS data). PNG and WebP have different metadata layouts (tEXt chunks / EXIF chunks) which we also strip when present.

### Does anything happen on a server?

Nothing. The file is read with FileReader, processed with a small in-browser parser, and downloaded — all local. Network tab will be empty.
