> A CSV to JSON converter parses CSV text into a JSON array of objects (or array of arrays) and goes the other way — converting a JSON payload back into RFC 4180-compliant CSV — entirely in the browser using the PapaParse library and native string operations.

Paste a CSV file or drop one in to instantly see the JSON equivalent, with the first row treated as keys by default. Toggle direction to go from JSON back to CSV with proper RFC 4180 quoting for fields that contain commas, newlines, or quotes. Auto-detects the delimiter (comma, semicolon, tab) and handles quoted fields and embedded newlines correctly.

## Features

- Bidirectional conversion (CSV → JSON and JSON → CSV)
- Auto-detects delimiter (comma, semicolon, tab, pipe)
- RFC 4180-compliant quoting for embedded commas, newlines, and quotes
- First-row-as-keys toggle, or treat as array-of-arrays
- Streaming PapaParse keeps multi-megabyte files smooth
- All conversion runs in-browser — the file never uploads

## Use cases

- Importing a spreadsheet export into a JSON-only API
- Exporting a JSON dataset to share with a non-developer in Excel
- Normalizing a noisy CSV (mixed delimiters, quoted commas) before further processing
- Inspecting a CSV's structure without opening Excel

## How to use it

1. **Paste CSV or JSON** — Paste either CSV text or a JSON payload — the converter detects the direction.
2. **Configure options** — Toggle first-row-as-keys, override the delimiter if needed.
3. **Copy the result** — Click Copy to grab the converted output, or download it as a file.

## When to use it, and when to use something else

- **vs Excel / Google Sheets CSV import** — use CSV ↔ JSON Converter when the file contains sensitive rows you do not want to upload to a cloud spreadsheet. Use Excel / Google Sheets CSV import when you also need formula evaluation or pivot tables.
- **vs Pandas / Miller / csvkit** — use CSV ↔ JSON Converter when you want a one-shot UI conversion without writing code. Use Pandas / Miller / csvkit when you are doing repeated programmatic transformations.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does the first row become keys?

By default yes — the first row is treated as headers and the remaining rows become objects keyed by those headers. Disable the option to get an array of arrays instead.

### How are quoted commas and newlines handled?

Per RFC 4180. A field wrapped in double quotes can contain commas, newlines, or escaped double quotes ("") and the parser keeps it as one cell. Outgoing CSV is quoted by the same rule.

### What delimiter is used?

Auto-detected from your input — comma, semicolon, tab, or pipe. You can override the choice manually for ambiguous files.

### Is large CSV handled okay?

PapaParse streams the input and we render in chunks. Multi-megabyte CSVs convert in seconds without freezing the tab.
